Getting To Know Queens Artist SULLS
Drawing you in with his originality and flow, SULLS hails from Queens, New York. Having a Puerto Rican mother and an Irish father, music would be a melting pot of styles and rhythms that would ignite a creative drive as you get to know this artist’s music. His latest offering “Revelations” brings us closer with the artist, so we decided to catch up with him and get to know him a little bit more.
You just dropped an EP, could you tell us about it?
Yes, the EP is titled “Revelations”. It was inspired by some personal experiences I’ve faced, personal issues I’ve dealt with, alongside a drive I’ve set for myself that pushes me to keep moving forward beyond the breaking points. Musically, this EP was influenced by a(n) arrangement of styles which could best be described as Urban Pop which include genres such as R&B, Hip Hop, and Trap.
Was it hard to be open in the EP?
At first it was bit difficult to share a side of myself within this project, but I am glad I did. While piecing these tracks together, I felt in a way that I was bridging closure from a past while learning to use this as a way of expression to share my own story. I also wanted to share a bit of what it was like for me growing up in New York City as a(n) artist as you will here in this titled track “Revelations”.
What else can we expect from you?
I’m not one to say much, but I can say that I have much more in the works that I am excited to share in due time.
What inspired the EP?
I felt comfortable enough to share this side of me and for the first time I felt that I found my voice that best illustrates what my content is on this project.
With everything that has happened lately, do you have any recent revelations?
I feel that there is much that needs to be done to correct this system that’s catered to one demographic instead of all demographics, by setting laws to protect people of colour, of the LGBTQ community, as well as structures which may allow immigrants to legally seek better opportunities in order to support there families. We need to re-educate ourselves on these matters and implement laws that no longer segregate us by groups, but instead bring us together as a nation in which we desperately need to towards these days ahead.
What stimulates your soul?
My family is what stimulates my soul. Being able to have there support as I peruse these opportunities is what keeps me moving towards a set goal which is by sharing my music.
