Getting To Know SharaLee
We all have disagreements with our friends and partners from time to time but sometimes things go too far. For SharaLee, her new track ‘Love Not War’ explores when it’s time to say enough is enough. We sit down with her to find out more about her latest track, her musical upbringing and what she wants to do for the rest of 2021.
Tell us about your new tune
My new song is about the power of the words we use to communicate with each other and tells a story of choosing to preserve a relationship over being right in a fight or disagreement.
What inspired it?
I get my inspiration from everyday issues. I am also a believer in God and the Bible and powerful messages can be shared through everyday circumstances. It's very practical and not the way most people see God.
What do you have planned for the future?
I've had a dream of recording a full album in a way that inspires me. I was on a writing hiatus for most of 2020 to really bring focus on my brand "Love3" and style so now I'm raring to go. Love Not War is the first song on the proposed Love3 album.
Who were your influences?
I am an 80s/90s kid and love 90s R&B/soul pop ballads, or passion music as my dad would call it. That's really were my heart is with style. Toni Braxton's Unbreak My Heart was a direct influence on this song.
How did you first get into music?
I was born into a church-going musical family. We were part of music ministries and I sang in public for the first time in church at 5 years old with my mom accompanying me in harmony. In my mom's family gatherings everyone played and instrument or sang. Our holiday gatherings were usually jam sessions. Grandma on the accordion, Grandpa on the fiddle, uncle on the guitar and my mom on either guitar or keyboard and everyone sang. At that time I just hummed along and I wasn't really interested in music yet. I was somewhat afraid of my own voice so I was quite timid but I was always encouraged to sing. My brother and I jammed together also. My first demo was a couple years after graduation when my boyfriend at the time heard me sing along to the radio and asked if I had considered singing professionally. His good friend happened to have a bedroom studio so he set up a recording session for me. The rest as they say is history.
