STRAWBERRY FIELDS FESTIVAL REVEALS JAW-DROPPING FIRST ROUND LINEUP
Strawberry Fields is back and this year and is set to hit the banks of the Murray River in NSW’s Tocumwal, from November 17-19, 2017.
We're super keen to see our favourite slice Sampa the Great and Mr Scruff as well as witnessing ARIA Hall of Fame inductees, Yothu Yindi presenting the Treaty Project to ninth edition of Strawberry Fields.
Yothu Yindi will reunite with Gavin Campbell, founding member of Filthy Lucre, in a reinvigorated formation featuring original Yothu Yindi members and special guests performing the band’s classic hits as well as brand new material, all with an electronic twist, as a cross-generational celebration of cultural diversity. Founding members Witiyana Marika, Stuart Kellaway and Kevin Marlangay will be joined by the popular Indigenous singer/songwriters Yirrmal, Constantina Bush and Yirrnga Yunupingu.
This year’s lineup will also deliver a solid takeover component. Legendary Amsterdam label, record shop and distributor Rush Hour are celebrating their 20th anniversary with a world tour including a stop on our wonderful festival. Founded in 1997, Rush Hour was the result of a “hobby that got out of hand” and has over the years morphed into a global presence committed to releasing new and rare gems. The showcase includes the talents of Antal, Hunee and Soichi Terada.
The 2017 edition of the festival will welcome the freshest and finest talent from the USA including Brooklyn’s shadowy and psychedelic Aurora Halal and Detroit Techno underdog DJ Bone, both of which guarantee to be a bloody good time.
Hailing from across the Atlantic, Strawberry Fields welcomes UK’s techno guru Andrew Weatherall, Moscow Records, Moss Co. and Arkityp label head Archie Hamilton, Eglo Records label boss and Rinse FM’s most diverse selector, Alexander Nut and label soul singer Fatima, DJ, Producer and cartoonist Mr. Scruff, DJ duo Twitch and Jonnie Wilkes’ Optimo and last but not least the stirring, emotive productions of VAAL.
Berlin wunderkinds Frankey & Sandrino star on the lineup along with Berlin-based-Korean-artist Peggy Gou who will woo punters with her kinetic combination of dark, pulsing house and techno, broken beats and abstract compositions. Also on the lineup are Monolink whose style seamlessly connects the narrative structure of a song with the compelling forward thrust of electronic rhythms and Germany’s Monkey Safari who is renowned for riding in with the power to deliver sunshine to the world's rainiest open air events.
Leading the charge from France is one of the country’s most respected DJs and producers Oxia. Joining him is Hamburg-based producer Sebastian Doering with his solo project, Lovebirds. Adding to the international selection but hailing from this side of the globe is New Zealand’s Keytar-wielding sensation K+Lab, who is braced to bring the beats to festival goers.
Strawberry Fields rounds off the lineup with a crop of local talent including female poet and singer-songwriter Sampa the Great, Melbourne outfit Total Giovanni, with the most sexually charged discothèque this side of the tropic of Capricorn, minimalist disco outfit Harvey Sutherland & Bermuda, international hip-hop, genre-smashing party DJ YO! MAFIA, PBS 106.7FM Australia’s Smoke and Mirrors’ radio host CC:DISCO!, the old school Motown vibes of The Teskey Brothers, Melbourne-born London-based Francis Inferno Orchestra and last but not least the up-and-coming, 23-year-old from Newcastle, Mall Grab.
