Princess Nokia Teams Up With Timbaland To Dismantle Hate With 'Erase The Hate' Campaign
Shape shifting NYC emcee Princess Nokia—aka Destiny Frasqueri—teamed up with prolific Grammy-winning producer Timbaland and NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment for the social impact campaign Erase The Hate.
The combination of the inspiring music with visual storytelling will amplify Erase The Hate’s mission to support and encourage a new generation taking action against hate, intolerance and inequality. Erase The Hate has also partnered with the nonpartisan, nonprofit organisation Civic Nation to help carry out its mission.
Starting Friday, August, 10 at 8PM ET, the video will air across the networks of NBCU Cable Entertainment including USA Network, SYFY, Bravo, E!,Oxygen and Universal Kids. The music collaboration between Timbaland and Princess Nokia provides a powerful soundtrack for the spot, recognising “the people who work every day to make the world better, stronger and great” and including the rallying cry that “now is the time…a time for a change, to start a new chapter…the turn of a page.” Their song works in tandem with dynamic visuals reflecting the work of organisations supported by Erase The Hate.
“Music is the most powerful tool to cure any negativity in the world. Being a part of this campaign is perfect for me,” said Timbaland. Princess Nokia added, “I wanted to join this campaign more than anything…simply because I have always revolved my life, revolved my music and revolved my passion around dismantling hate.”
“Silence equals complicity. Hate and bias must be called out wherever and whenever we see it. We all have a part to play…fighting hate means using the positions and platforms we have to make the difference we can,” said Bonnie Hammer, Chairman of NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment and founder of Erase The Hate. “I’m incredibly grateful to Timbaland and Princess Nokia for joining us to deliver Erase The Hate’s message of equality.”
Princess Nokia has also announced the launch of the Hood 2 La Gente: Puerto Rico Relief fundraising campaign, launched as the one year anniverary of Hurricane Maria’s devastation of Puerto Rico approaches. She has launched the campaign with several other activists to not only bring awareness to the political crisis in Puerto Rico but to support grassroots organizations working to serve the people. A few of the community-centered organizations they are partnering with include: Sol es Vida, el Hormiguero, Luis Llorens Torres projects, Urbe Apie, the Puerto Rico Trans Youth Coalition and el Centro de Apoyo Mutuo de Utuado.
