UK Hip Hop Artist Lukey Storey Drops Debut Solo EP 'I'm Shocked As You Are'
UK hip hop outlier Lukey Storey continues to push the envelope with his latest offering - the wonderfully eclectic and electric EP ‘I’m Shocked As You Are’.
Perhaps best known for his previous life as a successful touring DJ and producer, Lukey has long ditched the decks for the mic and been focusing on his solo career for several years now. His new 5 track EP represents an artist in full flow creatively and hungry to prove a point musically.
As someone who has previously opened up about his addictions and mental health issues in his music, tracks from the EPcontinue to showcase his strikingly engaging wordplay. Taking shots at haters, fake friends and celebrities, his witty bars are paired with a mix of some classic boom bap beats and more contemporary UK hip hop sounds to produce something genuinely different to the scene. Touching heavily on themes of love and loss, the EP provides a snapshot into Lukey’s life. With unconscious approach to writing, at times even Lukey is unsure where he pulls these songs from - hence the title, as he explains:
“’I’m As Shocked As You Are’ means I have no idea where these lyrics are coming from either! I also had a lot backed up that I wanted to get off my chest when writing it.”
The EP follows previous singles ‘Bizzee’, ‘Sex & Nicotine’ and ‘What It’s Like’ which garnered support from the likes of SBTV, The Line Of Best Fit, Wordplay Magazine and much more. Life as a DJ saw Lukey become BBC Radio 1Xtra's youngest ever DJ which led to collabs with artists such as Skrein, Foreign Beggers, Jehest and Graziella. He also built up a strong reputation live, playing hundreds of venues like The O2 and Jazz Caféduring his period as Professor Green’s DJ for over 12 years.
