LANKS Releases Stunning Visuals For "The Silence"
Prolific Brooklyn-based songwriter, producer and multi-instrumentalist LANKS releases mesmerising visuals for “The Silence”, co-written with RY X.
“The Silence” tells the story of two people in a slowly disintegrating relationship. Their love for each other is so all consuming that they must break away from each other to ‘save themselves’.
Choreographed by Alice Topp (resident choreographer at The Australian Ballet), the video features Callum Linnane and Nathan Brook (both soloists at The Australian Ballet) in a powerful, emotional narrative which “The Silence” lays a dynamic sonic foundation for. The charged energy which transpires between the two dancers is evident in their intimate and emotional performances.
The idea was to explore what the undoing of a relationship looks like. How could we express this visually and choreographically? Sometimes an undoing of two things feels like it’s moving backwards in time. Break ups can be a confusing space where we try to reorient ourselves and it can feel like we’re returning to a version of ourselves that existed before the relationship took place. The playing of footage in reverse paired with the dancers clothing themselves is the evocation of this idea. It implies that in order to come apart we must put ack on the layers we took off and re-establish our identities as individuals. - Orit Novak
Directed and produced by Orit Novak (Ramen Noodle Films) along with award winning cinematographer and DOP Lochie Hookway, the video is filled with closeup shots that highlight intimacy and rawness. The project was shot on the new Black Magic Design 12K Ursa camera, and the only camera in the world to have a 12K sensor.
