Canadian Up-And-Comer kerri Releases VHS Visuals For "SELF"
21-year-old Canadian artist kerri kicked off 2021 with moody single ‘SELF’.
The colourful palette of sounds kerri uses to convey emotion and yearning in the song is now complemented to a charming self-directed music/lyric video hybrid.
On the single, kerri said, “This song is from a time when I was struggling to keep everything in my life from falling apart and being afraid of the future, stuck in a cycle of loneliness”
The video was shot over a couple nights by my girlfriend & I on an old VHS camera I bought off eBay. I wanted the footage to match the warm yet chaotic production of the song. The editing was also important in achieving this effect and the typography designed by my good friend Korney Violin from Barcelona really aids the controlled chaos. We shot most of it in backstreets & alleyways in Montreal this past Christmas, trying to carefully strike a balance between endearing but also dreary.
