Getting To Know Lady Shaynah
Lady Shaynah is an R&B goddess and she just released her EP ‘Puzzled’. Hailing from the Netherlands, the artist constantly levels up with her music. Her storytelling music makes her relatable and connects her audience to her music on a personal level. We sit down with her to get to know her a little bit more.
You just released a new EP, can you tell us how you feel about it?
I am beyond excited! It took me a while to allow myself to let this music be heard, because it is my most personal project up to date, but it feels so freeing to have other souls hear it and relate to it.
What inspires you to make music?
Everything. Music is a way of letting things, that I don’t really talk about, go. Anything that happens to me or around me can inspire me to put that into a song or a piece of music.
During this pandemic, what has kept you grounded?
That is a great question. I’m not even sure if I am grounded as we speak XD. I’ve accepted that I will be ok some days and not on others. I mean… there is so much going on: fighting racial injustice, trauma’s resurfacing now that we have time to think about things all the wile not being able to “vent” or “release” it all on stage. I’m allowing myself to feel the feels of these uncertain and strange times while trying to keep exercising, eating well and mostly: breathing.
What can we expect next from you?
The next two parts of the Chapter22 Trilogy! I’m so curious to see if people will relate to is as much as they have to the first part: PUZZLED.
Have you noticed a difference in yourself after the release?
Yes, definitely. I was a bit anxious to release this particular project, because it is so close to my heart and I kind of “expose” some people whom did me wrong, but I’ve noticed that we all go through these motions. It’s so beautiful to be able to connect to people all across the globe and seeing that we share similar experiences. I am so much more at ease telling my stories now that I see that I’m just a mirror for people and they reflect the stories on themselves instead of questioning my personal life.
What stimulates your soul?
Good (Caribbean) food, interactions with pure and honest people, discovering new places and experiencing new things.
